1 Samuel 2
27-30 A holy man came to Eli and said: “This is God‘s message: I revealed myself openly to your ancestors when they were Pharaoh‘s slaves in Egypt. Out of all the tribes of Israel, I chose your family to be my priests: to preside at the Altar, to burn incense, to wear the priestly robes in my presence. I put your ancestral family in charge of all the sacrificial offerings of Israel. So why do you now treat as mere loot these very sacrificial offerings that I commanded for my worship? Why do you treat your sons better than me, turning them loose to get fat on these offerings, and ignoring me? Therefore—this is God’s word, the God of Israel speaking—I once said that you and your ancestral family would be my priests indefinitely, but now—God’s word, remember!—there is no way this can continue.
I honor those who honor me;
those who scorn me I demean. (Message Bible)
1 Samuel 3
11-14 God said to Samuel, “Listen carefully. I’m getting ready to do something in Israel that is going to shake everyone up and get their attention. The time has come for me to bring down on Eli’s family everything I warned him of, every last word of it. I’m letting him know that the time’s up. I’m bringing judgment on his family for good. He knew what was going on, that his sons were desecrating God’s name and God’s place, and he did nothing to stop them. This is my sentence on the family of Eli: The evil of Eli’s family can never be wiped out by sacrifice or offering.” ( Message Bible)
We should be very clear that God is also a very jealous God and there is no other God beside him.We must remember to always “honor” God. Even the smallest thing is important to God,because he loves us we will receive warnings just like Eli did,but he chose to ignore God. We cannot just treat God any kind of way and think he is okay with it,you may not even sense God’s anger at your disobedience. You can be sure that God is nudging you and doing his best to get your attention,but if you choose to ignore him and continue walking in disobedience. Then get ready for you will suffer the consequences,and what makes it even worse so will your family. God’s Word is true,and sin carries deadly consequences.
God had warned Eli continually that judgment is coming,judgment is coming and yet he refused to listen! God is good,but he will always honor his words to us,so let’s be very sure we are listening,and that we obey his voice. And do remember sin carries it’s own consequences,so don’t say “How can a good God allow this or that”.
God is Good.
