Pride will Get You Killed

Ester 5

9 So Haman went out that day joyful and with a glad heart; but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king’s gate, and that he did not stand or tremble before him, he was filled with indignation against Mordecai. 10 Nevertheless Haman restrained himself and went home, and he sent and called for his friends and his wife Zeresh. 11 Then Haman told them of his great riches, the multitude of his children, everything in which the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the officials and servants of the king.
12 Moreover Haman said, “Besides, Queen Esther invited no one but me to come in with the king to the banquet that she prepared; and tomorrow I am again invited by her, along with the king. 13 Yet all this avails me nothing, so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king’s gate.”

Haman had it made, but his pride drove him on and into a place he did not return. Haman’s anger, pride and hatred of Mordecai and the Jews went on “unchecked”, and as the events continue we see Haman has lost it all. We cannot continue to walk in pride and anger because the consequences are very dangerous. Haman was filled with hate and desired more than anything that Mordecai bow down to him. Mordecai’s heart belonged to God and he refused to bow to Haman. I think it’s amazing that nothing happened to Mordecai for not bowing to Haman, that’s God’s protection. Because remember Haman was given power and authority right next to the King, and he could have used it against Mordecai. But God kept him safe and he will do the same for us,when we choose to honor and trust him. It’s so easy to fall into pride when being blind to the many blessings you’ve already received. We should be careful how we use what God has given us,so many Christians are falling by the wayside and I’m afraid it’s mostly because of pride. When we start to thinking and feeling like I made this happen for me,all by myself then watch out. God loves us so very much and he will give us nughes and whispers  to get our attention back on him,but when we let pride and anger or anything else come before God,we will fail. I thank God for how he used Queen Esther to rescue her people from being totally wiped out,God had her at the right place at the right time. When we obey it is amazing how God will use us and bless us greatly. In the end Haman was hanged on the same gallows he had builded to kill Mordecai.

  1. Hi Pat,

The story of Esther is awesome!…. She was fearful, but Mordecai encouraged her in the Lord…. As we read the story from the writer’s perspective, it is obvious that our Lord was in control of all things, even though Esther had fears…. God led everything to turn out for the good of His people…. We need to be encouraged to stand strong in the Lord, even when things look scary….. Thank you for posting this. 🙂

    Love,
    Margaret

  2. Loved this post! I studied Esther a couple of years ago. I also sat at the Table of Esther at my Walk to Emmaus. Yes, God can turn anything around for the better and for his glory. Just have to step out in faith. Esther was a woman of great faith who allowed God to use her. May we all be God’s instruments!

    1. Amen April yes God can and may he continue to use us to encourage each other and reach out to the lost, thanks for stopping through.
      Love ya

  3. Thank you, Pat.

“We cannot continue to walk in pride and anger because the consequences are very dangerous. Haman was filled with hate and desired more than anything that Mordecai bow down to him. Mordecai’s heart belonged to God and he refused to bow to Haman.”
This story so fascinates me. Reminds me of the Hebrew boys … they didn’t bow either yet those who threw them in the fire suffered death. There’s much to gain by standing on His strength. Once our hearts ‘belong to God’, we are sealed. Current events may threaten but His protection is second to none!

“We should be careful how we use what God has given us,so many Christians are falling by the wayside and I’m afraid it’s mostly because of pride”
The Message version has an interesting take on Proverbs 16:18 “First pride, then the crash — the bigger the ego, the harder the fall. ” !

    Blessings and thanks again,

  5. Hi Pat,

I thought about the providence of God, as I read your article. God is continually watching over, and caring for His people, and intervening on our behalf! “I think it’s amazing that nothing happened to Mordechai for not bowing down to Haman.” God’s hand of protection, was upon Mordechai’s life! Even when we find ourselves in uncomfortable situations, God is in control, and He knows all about what we’re going through!

    God bless you!

    Paulette

  6. How true it is that pride goes before the fall. It is amazing that we as dust of the earth take credit for anything good! I have come too far in the Lord to ever think that I have anything of my own to offer. None of us do. It was for that reason Christ had to die for us and pay the price that we could not. Your message was a good reminder that the only thing we can do that is worthy is what Christ does through us!

God bless you, Pat, for your heart for the Lord and for sharing his teachings! I always enjoy my visits here.

Thanks so much for your comments,I do appreciate you.
